1) Mashed Sweet Potatoes and Apples

Peel, core, and chop one pound of sweet red apples and two large sweet potatoes. Place them in a pot of boiling water and cook until tender. Drain well, mash with some of the cooking water and season with sweet spices such as cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg.

2) Maple Apple Topping

4) Apple Date Oatmeal

Core and chop one small apple and place it in a small saucepan along with 1 ½ cups water, ½ cup unsweetened almond milk, two chopped pitted dates and a cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for five minutes. Add 1 cup of old-fashioned rolled oats, bring to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, for ten more minutes. Remove the cinnamon stick before serving.

5) Quick Homemade Applesauce

Peel, core and chop several apples and place them in a blender or food processor. Process until mostly smooth. Then, season as desired for a sugar-free, additive-free alternative to commercial applesauce. The puree can also be used in place of oil in recipes for baked goods such as muffins.
